Sen. Leila M. de Lima's Statement on the 7th Anniversary of the Maguindanao Massacre

On the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the Maguindanao Massacre, Sen. Leila M. de Lima expresses her continuing solidarity with the families, relatives, and friends of the victims in their search for justice for their departed loved ones.

This solidarity started from day one of the deadly incident, when as CHR Chairperson, De Lima personally went to the scene of the crime to assess the magnitude of the impunity committed that day. De Lima's hope for justice for the victims then became her professional responsibility when as Secretary of Justice, she saw to it that the DOJ provided only the best prosecution team in charge of proving the guilt of the accused Amapatuans before a court of law.

On the seventh year, even as the trial of the case continues, De Lima remains confident that in the end, truth and justice will prevail, and that the death of the family's loved ones, especially that of the journalists and media people, was not in vain.

In memory of the victims, De Lima offers her most fervent prayers and sincerest sympathies to the victims' families.
