PANGILINAN LAUDS LATE SEN. SALONGA, 18 OTHER NEW BANTAYOG NG MGA BAYANI HEROES

MANILA - Remembering the sacrifices of those who fought against the Marcos dictatorship during martial law is a way honor those who fought for the freedom and democracy we now enjoy, said Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan on the new set of Bantayog ng mga Bayani heroes to be honored this Wednesday.

"Huwag nating kalimutan ang kanilang mga sakripisyo noon para makamit natin ang mga kalayaang tinatamasa natin ngayon (Let's not forget their sacrifices so that we can enjoy the freedoms we now enjoy)," said Pangilinan.

On November 30, Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation is set to honor nineteen men and women who fought against the Marcos dictatorship.

The late Senator Jovito Salonga leads 18 others set to be honored at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani in Quezon City. The other eighteen honorees are:

14. Romulo Peralta
15. Jose Aquilino Tangente
16. Simplicio Villados
17. Danilo P. Vizmanos
18. Antonio "Tony" Zumel

"Pinaparangalan natin ang ating mga bayani para magsilbi silang inspirasyon sa atin at sa mga susunod na henerasyon. Sana ay manatili sa ating isipan ang mga aral at nagawa ng ating mga bayani na lumaban at nagsakripisyo noong panahon ng diktadurya (We honor our heroes because they serve as inspiration to us and the future generations. May the lessons of the lives of those who fought and sacrificed during the dictatorship remain in our memory)," said Pangilinan.

"Huwag din nating kalimutan ang mga pang-aabuso at human rights violations na nangyari noong madilim na panahon ng ating kasaysayan. Ito'y mga aral ng nakaraan para hindi na natin ulitin sa hinaharap (We must never forget as well the atrocities and human rights violations committed during those dark times in our history for these lessons of our past will prevent us from doing it again in the future)," he added.

On November 30, a rally will be held at the People Power Monument along EDSA to protest against the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
