MESSAGE ON THE CELEBRATION OF THE HOLY MONTH OF RAMADAN

I am one with our Muslim communities here and abroad in the observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

In this holy season of fasting and prayer, let us enjoin our brothers and sisters to reflect on the value of peace and to pray for our deliverance from hatred and violence. May our fellow Filipinos in Islam embody the sacred teachings of Allah in our quest to achieve lasting peace and unity.

Isama po natin sa ating panalangin ang mga biktima ng karahasan at paglapastangan sa ating karapatan, at ang mga kasalukuyang naiipit sa deka-dekada nang kaguluhan. Nawa'y mangibabaw ang kapayapaan sa ating kalooban at lipunan, maghilom na ang sugat na dulot ng mga alitan na kumikitil sa libo-libo nating kababayan, kabilang ang inosenteng sibilyan. Sa bawat pagkakataon, manaig sana ang malasakit, pagkakaisa, at pagmamahal sa kapwa at bansa.

During these challenging times that the Philippines is in turmoil brought about by violence and blatant disregard of our fundamental rights, let us stand united in fighting the evil that poisons our humanity. Let us demand our leaders to be an exemplar of respect and compassion, and to lead us in the right direction towards a humane and just society.
