SEN. ANGARA'S STATEMENT ON SC RULING UPHOLDING THE DECLARATION OF MARTIAL LAW IN MINDANAO

We support the ruling of the Supreme Court being the final arbiter on the matter.

I was in Mindanao for the past week and I saw that things were proceeding as normal. May nakausap nga akong mga bakwit sa Iligan na nagsabing palagay ang kanilang loob at ramdam nilang ligtas sila sa kabila ng deklarasyon ng martial law. I think the 1987 Constitution has enough safeguards to protect the people from possible abuses.

We have high hopes that this war will soon come to an end. Buo po ang ating tiwala sa ating kasundaluhan at ibinubuhos po natin ang ating suporta at dasal para sa kanilang kaligtasan.

We call on our government to fast-track all efforts to bring Marawi back to its feet. This crisis has resulted to human cost that cannot be calculated in pesos and we must ensure that normalcy in the lives of our brothers and sisters in Mindanao will be restored. Let's unite against the common enemy. Sama-sama nating labanan ang terorismo at tulungan ang pagbangon ng Marawi.
