Koko says increase in ratings due to work of all senators

Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III on Monday said that the 7% jump in his approval ratings is a tribute to the performance of all senators, and not just himself.

Pulse Asia's June 2017 Nationwide Survey on the Performance and Trust Ratings of the Top Five National Officials and Key Government Institutions, released on Monday, showed Pimentel receiving a 62% approval rating, a significant increase over the 55% he received in the March 2017 edition of the same survey.

"I am glad that 62% approve of my work as Senate President, especially since I do not have a professional PR team dedicated to positively promoting my image. However, since I was rated on my performance as Senate President, the credit must go to the entire Senate, the majority and the minority included," Pimentel said.

The Senate President said that the public appreciated the accomplishments of the Senate which were achieved by senators working as part of a collegial body.

"Hence, I would like to congratulate all the other senators for their hard work. Thanks must also be given to the media for bringing to the public's attention all that we are doing in the Senate," he added.

Pimentel's trust rating also improved to 58%, higher than the 55% he received in the previous survey.

Under Pimentel's watch, the Senate registered an improvement in its approval rating as an institution, with 59% of respondents approving of the Senate's work, compared to 55% in March.

Pimentel has served as Senate President for almost a year, steering the Senate through its Centennial Year and the various issues it encountered this year.

In his message to the Senate during the sine die adjournment of the First Regular Session of the 17th Congress, Pimentel outlined the achievements of the Senate, while cautioning his fellow lawmakers, their staff, and the officials and employees of the Senate Secretariat that their work is not yet done.

The Senate is expected to tackle the Comprehensive Tax Reform Package proposed by the Department of Finance and the shift to Federalism when it opens its Second Regular Session on July 24, along with other bills that remain pending.

The Pulse Asia survey was conducted from June 24-29, 2017 using face to face interviews of 1,200 respondents all over the country, with a 3% margin of error at the 95% confidence level.
