16 senators condemn EJKs

Sen. Cynthia Villar filed along with 15 others senators a resolution condemning all cases of extrajudicial killings not only those committed against minors.

Proposed Senate Resolution No. 518 condemns in the strongest sense extrajudicial killings and calls on the government to exert and exhaust all efforts to stop and resolve these killings.

"We are condemning all cases of extrajudicial killings not only those involving our children," Villar said.

Initiated by Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri, the resolution was also signed by Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III, Senators Sonny Angara, Nancy Binay, Joseph Victor Ejercito, Francis Escudero, Sherwin Gatchalian, Richard Gordon, Gregorio Honasan, Panfilo Lacson, Loren Legarda, Manny Pacquiao, and Grace Poe. Sen. Joel Villanueva was on sick leave but expressed intention to sign.

According to the resolution, "these EJKs and unresolved killings have no place in a civilized and democratic society like the Philippines, thus we vehemntly condemn EJKs and all other unresolved killings and challenge the concerned government agencies to step up their drive to resolve these rising killings and criminalities against our citizens regardless of age, sex, creed, religion or political beliefs."
