Sen. Leila M. de Lima's statement on Duterte's unabated attacks on the Catholic faith and on humanity

Only Duterte can mock both God and the dead all in just one sentence. When he said that God assured him that the EJK victims of his drug war will go to heaven, Duterte showed nothing but contempt for both human life and the faithful. It is not enough that he has ordered and enabled the murder of thousands, he just has to inflict more pain on those who lost a loved one in his drug war by insulting their dead and faith in God, all at the same time.

This is more than just cruel. This is pure evil and abomination that has no place in a society that still values itself to be civilized.

We can choose to bear with the evil of Duterte only for so long without losing our own humanity. For whatever will remain after he is finished ravaging our morals and values will only be a faint reminder of the people that we once were, as we turn into nothing more than a country of modern savages.

This is what we are fast becoming, unless our faith in both God and countrymen can hold and break Duterte's assault on the nation's soul and deliver us from his atrocities once and for all.
