On Eid'l Adha, De Lima greets Muslims for unwavering solidarity

Opposition Senator Leila M. de Lima has extended her warm greetings to the Muslims here and abroad in their celebration of the Islamic holiday of Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice today, Aug. 22.

De Lima said the commemoration of this holy occasion allows the nation to witness the unwavering solidarity and dedication of the Muslims, which are worth emulating.

"Your renewed faith and meaningful reflections during this solemn feast inspire many of us to remain steadfast and optimistic; that we will not succumb to pressures and challenges no matter how difficult it can get because we are guided and protected by God," she said in an official statement.

Eid'l Adha, also known as Sacrifice Feast, commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice and show his commitment to Allah by proving his willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael.

It is one of two of the most important holidays on the Muslim calendar, the other being Eid'l Fitr, which marks the culmination of the month-long fast during Ramadan.

The Senator from Bicol said she hopes that the government leaders would sincerely help in bringing lasting peace and stability in war-stricken Mindanao and improve the plight of the Muslims there.

The Chairperson of the Senate Social Justice, Welfare and Rural Development Committee is hopeful that the new Bangsamoro Organic Law will bring lasting peace in Mindanao and give the Bangsamoro people genuine autonomy that will allow for their meaningful self-governance.
