GORDON JOINS PRESIDENTIAL DELEGATION AS PRRD MAKES HISTORIC TRIP TO ISRAEL

Senator Richard J. Gordon on Sunday left for a historic trip to Israel as a member of the delegation of President Rodrigo R. Duterte on the first ever visit of a Philippine president to Israel and Jordan.

Gordon joined the delegation to get a better understanding of the issues involving the overseas Filipino workers in Israel and Jordan in the hope of coming up with new legislation that would help the OFWs and their families here in the country.

He has recently sponsored Senate Bill No. 1753 under Committee Report No. 300 which seeks to amend the Social Security System's Charter. The amendments include expanding SSS' membership by tapping overseas Filipino workers thru compulsory coverage.

During the trip, Gordon will also present to the Knesset Philippine Senate Resolution No. 757, which seeks to reaffirm and strengthen Philippines-Israel relations by forging an association among parliamentarians from the two countries.

The said resolution, filed by Gordon and adopted by the Senate, hopes to pave the way for regular discussions on matters of mutual interest and areas of mutual cooperation between the two nations by establishing a Philippines-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Association.

Gordon and the whole delegation will also meet with the Magen David Adom, Israel's national emergency medical, disaster, ambulance and blood bank service, in the hope of gaining more knowledge from their expertise in responding to disasters and terrorist activities.

"With our country having a buffet of disaster, both natural and man-made, we need to be prepared and regularly update our techniques in disaster management and response. In the Red Cross, we have been training with the Magen David Adom, especially on how to respond during mass casualty incidents," he said.

The Duterte delegation will get a demonstration of the joint response by the Israeli police and the Magen David Adom to a terrorist attack. The procedure to be presented is a result of joint work and lessons learned from incidents and have been revised several times based on experience from incidents. They will also see a demonstration of the special tools used by Magen David Adom responders such as medical motorcycles, electric small vehicles, mass casualty response vehicle, personal protective equipment used by EMS personnel.

The group will also get a demonstration of the Magen David Adom's command and control system which allows rapid location of the incident (including the use of and App), receiving real time footage from the scene, allocation and dispatch of the resources, alerting off duty personnel and volunteers, real time alerts to the management, and information to managers through an app, management of multi sites incidents and receiving real time video streams from the different response vehicles.
