POE GOES BACK TO HOMETOWN ILOILO

Iloilo City--Sen. Grace Poe visited anew her home province Iloilo last Saturday (Feb. 2) to attend the Feast of Our Lady of the Candles (Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria) at Jaro Cathedral.

"Hangga't kaya ko naman lalo na kapag piyesta ay gusto kong magsimba dito para magpasalamat at humingi ng gabay," said Poe, who was found as a baby inside the church.

"Nagpapasalamat ako kasi siyempre hindi ko naman mararating ang narating ko ngayon kung hindi dahil sa pagkakataon na nangyaring nakuha ako dito, inalagaan ako ng mga taga-Jaro, tapos lumipat ako ng Bacolod, galing sa Bacolod saka ako nag-Manila, doon nga sa nanay ko kay Susan Roces at kay FPJ," Poe said.

Poe sees to it that she visits the church at least once a year. She visited in May last year and attended the patron saint's feast in 2017.

Poe also went around Iloilo to touch base with her kasinmanwas and hear their plight.

In separate radio interviews, Poe said she was grateful how Iloilo shaped her life as a person and as a public servant.

"Kaya din ako'y nasa gobyerno ngayon dahil din 'yung nangyari sa tatay ko so konektado talaga ang lahat kaya humihingi ako ng tulong at higit sa lahat, nagpapasalamat," she added.

Poe said she would also ensure that public funds are spent wisely and that investigations in aid of legislation would be fair.

Poe authored laws on school feeding program that provides free meals to public school students and First 1,000 Days that mandates nutritional support to mothers and babies. She also authored laws extending driver's license validity from three years to five or 10 years, if without infraction, as well as extending validity of passports from five to 10 years.

She also filed measures waiving pre-employment fees of documents for fresh graduates and free Internet in public transport terminals.
