Sen. Bong Revilla files second batch of bills

Senator Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr. today filed his second batch of priority bills after filing his first ten last week.

In line with his campaign commitments, the lawmaker filed three bills for the elderly and senior citizens - the "Centenarians Act of 2019"; Lowering the age of senior citizens from 60 to 56; and the establishment of an Elderly Care and Nursing Complexes all over the country.

Under the "Centenarians Act of 2019," the P 100,000 incentive for Filipinos reaching the age of 100 shall be given in three tranches: P25,000 upon reaching 80 years old; another P25,000 upon reaching 90; and the remaining P 50,000 upon reaching 100 years old.

The Senator is also pushing for the lowering of the legal age of senior citizens from 60 to 56. This is in consonance with his other bills lowering the retirement age of workers to 56 so that employees may opt to retire and enjoy their benefits while still physically capable. Revilla also proposed an amendment to the Social Security System (SSS) Act so that contributors will start receiving their pensions at the age of 55 provided that they have contributed for 120 months prior to their retirement. At present, SSS beneficiaries need to wait until 60 years old before they can be granted their monthly pension.

"May mga bills tayo na nais ibaba ang retirement age sa 56, at sa pamamagitan ng panukala naming ito, maha-harmonize natin ang batas," Revilla said. "Sa pagretiro, makikinabang na rin sila sa benepisyo sa ilalim ng batas, at magkakaron sila ng higit pang panahon na i-enjoy ang kanilang retirement. Magbubukas din ito ng pagkakataon para sa bagong pag-empleyo dahil mas maaga nilang mababakante ang kanilang mga trabaho," he added.

The veteran senator also filed the 'Magna Carta for Daycare Workers" which aims to protect the rights and ensure the benefits of day care workers. "Gusto nating gawing regular sila, na may pare-pareho, pantay-pantay, at regular na sahod at benepisyo. Hindi yung katulad ngayon na may daycare worker minsan lang sa isang taon nabibigyan ng allowance, kakarampot pa," the lawmaker explained.

Revilla also filed the Senate counterpart of the "Eddie Garcia Law" which will provide specific Occupational Health and Safety Standards for actors and workers in the movie and television industry.

For health care, Revilla filed the "Family Medical Leave Act" which will grant employees a maximum of 15 days paid leave to personally look after an immediate family member suffering from serious medical conditions, and the "Comprehensive Renal Replacement Act of 2019" which provides free dialysis for indigent patients.

To resolve the long-standing cry of public school teachers, Revilla filed a bill to elevate the salary of entry-level teachers from SG 11 to SG 15.

He also filed the "Magna Carta for Filipino Seafarers" to protect the rights, welfare and status of our local seafarers while fcompleting their contracts overseas.

The filing of bills were done in accordance with the schedule being implemented by the Senate. Revilla is set to file over 100 bills before the session opens on July 22.
