Time to empower PH rural areas through Science, Technology- Revilla

Now is the perfect time to empower the country's poorest regions in dire need of science and technology to improve their standard of living.

This is what Sen. Bong Revilla emphasized upon filing Senate Bill No. 887 or an act upgrading the position of the Provincial Science and Technology Officer into the Provincial Science and Technology Director in the Department of Science and Technology.

He believes that the promotion of provincial science officers to director status will bring the necessary resources and manpower to regional science centers responsible for empowering and guiding local communities in creating sustainable sources of livelihood.

Since the government continues to invest in harnessing the country's capacity in the field of Science and Technology, particularly the recent signing of Republic Act No. 11363 or the Philippine Space Act, Revilla wants to maximize this momentum by improving provincial centers of science and technology.

He further stated that it is the rural regions that need basic technology like electricity, water and waste management, access to the internet, and other necessities that hamper their everyday lives.

"Para ma-sustain natin ang national programs ng pamahalaan sa larangan ng Science and Technology, dapat nating pagyabungin muna ang provincial science centers natin lalo na sa mga rural regions na mas nangangailangan ng teknolohiya para naman mapaangat ang antas ng buhay nila," Revilla said.

He also pointed out that improving science and technology in the grassroots level can also strengthen other important government programs in the field of medicine, disaster risk reduction and management, communication, and infrastructure in their respective areas.
