Duterte, Go witness decommissioning of ex-rebel forces

Straight from his visit to fire victims in Aklan, Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go joined President Rodrigo Duterte as the latter led the decommissioning of the arms of 727 members of the Rebolusyonaryong Partido Ng Manggagawa-Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade-Tabara Paduano Group (RPM-P/RPA-ABB-TPG) at the Camp General Macario B. Peralta, Jr. in Jamindan, Capiz on Thursday, September 19.

The RPM-P/RPA-ABB-TPG is a splinter group of the New People's Army (NPA) based in Western Visayas.

In an ambush interview, Go said that the former rebels will be given jobs, livelihood and housing assistance by the government so they can start a normal life again.

"Bibigyan sila ng livelihood, trabaho at pabahay mula sa pamahalaan," said Go.

The senator also encouraged other rebel groups to lay down their arms and support the government's programs and initiatives.

"Ine-encourage sila ng mahal na Pangulo na magbalik-loob sa pamahalaan. Hindi lang sila, it also goes with the NPA. Welcome po kayo," Go said.

Go has always been a supporter of localized peace talks as a modality towards lasting peace in the country. In his previous interviews, Go said that the roots of rebellion in the country are usually due to local issues which can be addressed on a local level.

"Let us give enough authority and capabilities to our local government units, including support mechanisms, so they can pursue lasting peace in their respective areas," Go said.
