Bong Go aids fire victims in Quezon City; challenges Robredo anew to accept PRRD's offer as drug czar

After attending the opening of the Malasakit Center at the Philippine Heart Center, Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go rushed on Tuesday, November 5, to the aid of the victims of a fire that occurred on Kaunlaran Street, Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City, last November 3.

Go said in an interview after distributing grocery packs and cash assistance to the 30 affected families, comprising 126 individuals.

Go said that he visits victims of calamities to personally hear from them their concerns and requests.

The Senator was joined by representatives from concerned government agencies to also provide immediate assistance to the victims and evaluate how government can help further with regards to livelihood and housing.

The agencies include the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Housing Authority (NHA) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Go also offered to buy uniforms and school supplies to the affected children and pay for the fare of the victims who want to relocate to their provinces.

He also shared that aside from the Malasakit Center in the Philippine Heart Center, Filipinos can seek help from 48 other Malasakit Centers all over the country. The centers are one-stop shops where patients or their representatives can apply for financial assistance from relevant government agencies, such as PhilHealth, DSWD, Department of Health (DOH) and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

In the interview, Go repeated his previous challenge for Vice President Leni Robredo to accept President Rodrigo Duterte's offer to her to head the government's campaign against illegal drugs.

"To Vice President Leni, tanggapin mo na. Malay mo, kaya mo 'yan," Go said.

"Subukan n'yo po, six months or up to the remainder of the President's term," he added.

The President gave the offer in response to the Vice President's criticism of the administration's war against drugs.

Go said that in case Robredo accepts the offer, the President will give her the freedom to handle the problem as she pleases. "Siya na po ang head, so she will be on top of everything, sa lahat ng ahensiya na naka-attach dito para labanan ang iligal na droga."

He added that the task is quite difficult but should be done for the sake of the Filipino people.

The Senator clarified, however, that the President and the Vice President have no personal conflicts.
