Dela Rosa highlights the need to fund search and rescue operations of PNP, BFP

Senator Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa is pushing for an increase in the budget of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other line agencies of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) who are always at the frontlines during search and rescue operations in times of calamities.

Speaking during the Senate budget deliberation for the 2021 budget of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Dela Rosa manifested his full support for any increase in the budget of the law enforcement agencies for search and rescue operations. He also sought the support of other legislators to do the same to be able to protect our rescuers in the conduct of their duties.

"I would like to manifest that I will give my support to any budget increase for the PNP and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and other law enforcement agencies that would enable them to continuously serve our people especially during times of typhoons and calamities," Dela Rosa said.

The former PNP chief stressed that the uniformed personnel are ready to serve at all times, even if they have to risk their own lives, to ensure the safety of the people.

"Hindi po tayo pinapabayaan ng ating mga uniformed personnel, ating mga kapulisan at mga bumbero, sa tuwing may sakuna. Lagi po silang handang tumulong sa mga nangangailangan. Hindi po nila iniinda ang panganib sa kanilang buhay para lamang magampanan nilang lubos ang kanilang sinumpaang tungkulin para sa bayan," Dela Rosa noted.

Dela Rosa underscored the need to fully equip our uniformed personnel since as members of the Search, Rescue and Retrieval Cluster of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), they are also engaged in relief operations.

"Cops had been deployed for search and rescue operations in areas located along the path of Ulysses as well as to aid the LGUs in their clearing operations and providing security in various evacuation centers. Similarly, the Bureau of Fire Protection has been involved in relief operations particularly in road clearing operations of flood water and mud," Dela Rosa stressed.

"It is necessary to fully equip them being our constant and immediate frontliners in rescue and relief operations in times of calamities. Sabi nga nila wala pang bagyo, wala pang baha, andyan na yung pulis at bumbero," Dela Rosa noted.

"Sana po ay suportahan ng ating mga kasamahan dito sa Senado ang pagtaas ng pondo para sa ating uniformed personnel para patuloy pa silang makapagligtas ng buhay," the senator and former top cop continued.

Recent data show that the PNP has 28 high speed tactical water craft units, 68 motorized bancas, 29 improvised water crafts, 135 inflatable rubber boats, 10 police fast boats and two helicopters. Most of these equipment were purchased during Dela Rosa's term as PNP chief, according to Senator Angara.
