IMEE: BRIDGE THE DIGITAL DIVIDE, BREAK THE TELCO DUOPOLY

"As principal author, I urgently appeal to Malacañang not to veto the Konektadong Pinoy Act," Senator Imee Marcos said, urging President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to fully support the measure. The senator also warned that watering it down would betray public interest and surrender Filipino telecommunications to imbedded oligarchies.

"It would be deeply unfortunate if, after both Houses of Congress clearly sided with the people, the President is even considering altering or cannibalizing the bill," Senator Marcos said, reacting to reports that the bill might be vetoed by PBBM.

The Konektadong Pinoy Act seeks to end the outdated Congressional franchise requirement for data transmission providers, a move that aims to break the decades-long duopoly and open the door to more affordable, faster, and reliable internet--especially for far-flung and underserved communities.

"This is the moment for us to side with the masses and not the monopolies." Senator Marcos urged.

Senator Imee challenged Malacañang to resist pressure from entrenched players who benefit from a rigged system that has kept data costs high and internet speeds low across the archipelago.

"Please sign--for all Filipino students burdened by poverty and helplessly connectivity-poor. For the sick, whose only lifeline is digital care and telemedicine.For the remote and hard-to-reach communities who will never be served by the rich and powerful, driven only by profit," urged Marcos.

"Please sign for our OFWs whose only contact with their families, friends and country is digital. Please sign for all Filipinos barely eking a living to find a small joy in connecting with others," she added.

She stressed that the bill, along with existing legislation such as the recent amendment to the Public Services Act and the Foreign Investment Act, contains strong national security safeguards, including presidential powers to block foreign threats and mandatory cybersecurity standards.

"Bridge the digital divide. Break the duopoly. Please sign for our country, which has fallen so far behind in so many ways, concretely, digitally and democratically. Please sign KPA," Marcos added.

IMEE: BUWAGIN ANG DUOPOLYO SA TELCO

Layon ng Konektadong Pinoy Act na tanggalin ang luma at hadlang na pangangailangan ng Congressional franchise para sa data transmission providers -- isang hakbang upang buwagin ang deka-dekadang 'duopoly' at buksan ang pinto sa mas abot-kaya, mabilis, at maaasahang internet, lalo na sa mga malalayong lugar at komunidad na matagal nang napag-iiwanan.

"Bilang pangunahing may-akda, nananawagan ako sa Malacañang na huwag ibasura ang Konektadong Pinoy Act," ani Senadora Imee Marcos. Direkta rin siyang umapela kay Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. na suportahan ang panukalang batas. Binalaan din ng senadora na ang pagbabago o pagkatay sa panukala ay pagtataksil sa interes ng publiko at pagpapasakop sa mga oligarkiyang gustong kontrolin ang telekomunikasyon.

"Napakalungkot na matapos pumanig ang parehong Kapulungan ng Kongreso sa taumbayan, ay isasaalang-alang pa ng Pangulo na baguhin o sirain ang mismong batas," dagdag ni Marcos, bilang tugon sa ulat na maaaring i-veto ni PBBM ang panukala.

"Panahon na para manindigan tayo para sa masa, hindi para sa mga monopolyo," panawagan ni Senadora Marcos.

Hamon din ni Senadora Imee sa Malacañang na huwag magpadala sa puwersa ng mga makapangyarihang sektor na patuloy na nakikinabang sa baluktot na sistemang nagpapataas sa presyo ng koneksyon at nagpapabagal sa internet sa buong kapuluan.

"Pirmahan na ito. Para sa mga mahihirap na estudyanteng walang sapat na pambayad sa internet; Para sa mga may sakit na umaasa sa telekonsulta; Para sa mga nasa liblib na lugar na hindi kailanman prayoridad ng oligarkiya ang kanilang kapakanan; Para sa ating mga OFW na nakikipagsapalaran sa malayong bansa para sa pamilya," udyok ni Marcos.

"At kung pangalan ko man ang dahilan kung bakit ayaw pirmahan ang panukalang ito, burahin niyo na lang ang pangalan ko - wag lang pahirapan ang ating mga kababayan," dagdag pa ng senadora.
