MIGS WITH NMPP OFFICERS: Nagkakaisang Mangagawa ng Pelikulang Pilipino (NMPP) officers and board of directors (L-R) Mel Chionglo, Manny Morfe, Raquel Villavicencio, Gina Alajar, Soxy Topacio, Amay Bisaya, Joel Lamangan, Maning Borlaza, Josie Tagle, Baldo Maro, Rez Cortez, Allan Noble and Jose Carreon taking their oath of office before Senator Juan Miguel "Migs" Zubiri at the Senate. The new set of NMPP officers vowed to push for legislative measures that will help strengthen the local film industry and promote the welfare of movie workers. Zubiri, for his part, has filed a bill creating an independent superbody that will oversee the funding, development, evaluation and promotion of local films. Senate Bill 2560 or the Local Film Industry Development Act of 2010 seeks to strengthen the powers and functions of the Film Development Council of the Philippines and reorganize it into an independent agency called the Philippine Film Commission.
