Combating online abuse and exploitation. Senator Risa Hontiveros on Wednesday met with representatives from Facebook, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to discuss the continuous propagation of child sexual abuse and exploitation materials online.

All stakeholders agreed to three steps in combating online abuse and exploitation: the immediate take down of exploitative content, the preservation of evidence on the side of Facebook, and the transmittal of those evidence to law enforcement. The senator also stressed that the best interest of the child should always be taken into consideration.

Hontiveros, who authored the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children bill, also welcomes Facebook’s commitment to participate in the crafting of the Implementing Rules and Regulation as the measure is expected to lapse into law tomorrow, July 28.
