PH needs Department of Disaster Resilience: Sen. Alan Peter S. Cayetano is urging the immediate passage of three bills that will pave the way for the creation of the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR) in light of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that jolted the Ilocos Region, Wednesday, July 27, 2022. In his manifestation during the plenary session, Cayetano stressed the need to create the DDR since the Philippines is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change and disasters. He said even President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. mentioned the need for the creation of the DDR. There are at least three bills filed by Cayetano, his sister Sen. Pia Cayetano, and Sen. Bong Go that are pushing for the creation of the DDR. “We need one department that will be accountable, one department that will be the one to do the job and can pinpoint if there is coordination needed. Personally, I am drafting a letter to Malacañang to certify these bills as urgent,” Cayetano said. (Voltaire Fernandez Domingo / Senate PRIB)
