Not only our President but a war hero: Sen. Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada pays tribute to the late President Fidel V. Ramos during Monday's plenary session, August 1, 2022. According to Estrada, Ramos broke a long-standing tradition in the Philippine bureaucratic setup when he appointed then Vice President Joseph Ejercito Estrada as head of the Presidential Anti-Crime Commission. He said Ramos’ example has been adopted as a practice by his successors, appointing their vice president to a concurrent executive position to help in the delivery of the administration's programs. "President Fidel Ramos was not only our president, he was a war hero, a decorated military serviceman, an advocate of peace, a statesman, a diplomat, and a public servant, who dedicated his life to the service of the Filipino people,” Estrada said, who also asked to be included as one of the authors and sponsors of a Senate resolution honoring the late president.
