Legarda thanks peers for passage of bills: Senate President Pro-Tempore Loren Legarda thanks her colleagues during the plenary session Tuesday, August 2, 2022 for supporting the passage of Republic Act (RA) No. 11916, which increased the monthly pension of indigent senior citizens from P500 to P1,000, and RA No. 11904, otherwise known as the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act. Legarda said that as a member of a group known as the culture bloc in the House of Representatives, she was grateful that Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III had shepherded the passage of the Creative Industries into law. She said RA 11904 is the first step towards “finding the resources” to help those that badly needed help during the pandemic. Legarda also urged the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to update and cleanse the list of pensioners up to July 2022. She expressed hope that the transfer of the pension database and jurisdiction of the payment from the DSWD to the newly created Commission on Senior Citizens would not delay the distribution of pension to the indigent senior citizens.
