Tulfo pushes for road contractors liability insurance: Sen. Raffy Tulfo is urging the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to require contractors for infrastructure projects to secure a liability insurance for accidental death or injury of workers and motorists. During the plenary deliberation on the proposed P737.36 billion budget of the DPWH for 2023, Tulfo lamented that many contractors skirt responsibility for the injury or death of its workers and motorists. He said there was also an instance when he had to shoulder the expenses of these workers and motorists because their employer did not provide them with insurance. “On so many occasions, we have received reports of accidents on the site of government projects because of inadequate safety measures in place. To make matters worse is the lack of liability insurance for the death and injuries,” the Senator said. Sen. Sonny Angara, sponsor of the DWPH budget, said Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan assured him that an all-risk insurance would be required from contractors by next year.
