Citing in contempt: Sen. Win Gatchalian asks the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality to cite in contempt Mayor Alice Guo aka Guo Hua Ping, together with other personalities who failed to attend the committee hearing despite having served subpoenas. “It is disappointing because this is our fourth hearing and we have invited these important resource persons to give them the opportunity to explain and give their opinion, give their side. And we have issued a subpoena to several personalities but it seems like they are not giving respect to the institution and to the Senate. For me, ignoring the subpoena is like ignoring and disrespecting our institution and the process we are doing to find the truth,” Gatchalian said in Filipino during Wednesday’s hearing, July 10, 2024. “Their non-appearance is a loss for them because they will lose the opportunity to explain and for me it’s a sign that they know something they don't want to reveal, they don't want to let us know and they are hiding something. Their continued defiance is a sign of guilt,” he added. Among the personalities who were cited in contempt are Jian Zhong Guo, Sheila Leal Guo, Wesley Leal Guo, Nancy Jimenez Gamo, Jaimielyn S. Cruz, Roderick Paul B. Pujante, Juan Miguel Alpas Cos, Alberto Rodulfo “AR” De La Serna, Katherine Cassandra Ong, Jonathan Mendoza, and Dennis Cunanan. (Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau)
