Tol supports suspension of jeepney modernization program: Majority Leader Francis “Tol” Tolentino supports Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero’s recommendation, through a Senate resolution, to suspend the government jeepney modernization program. During Tuesday’s hearing, July 23, 2024, of the Committee on Public Services, Tolentino agreed to temporarily suspend the program while the government is seeking solutions to end the problem and conflict with jeepney drivers and operators. “I associate myself fully with the motion given by the Senate President and supplemental motion given by Sen. JV Ejercito…I believe it would now appear that this is a bureaucracy initiated crisis seeking a bureaucratic solution,” Tolentino explained. “(Let's support the suspension of the program), in the meantime, while all other heads are looking for the appropriate formula to seek ways to end this bureaucratic-made crisis,” he added.
