Responding to climate change: Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa co-sponsors Senate Bill No. 2780 or the Loss and Damage Fund Board Act as he urges his colleagues to support the immediate passage of the proposed measure. The Loss and Damage Fund Board selected the Philippines as its host country during the Board’s second meeting in Songdo, South Korea last month. “If we are lucky enough to be the host, this fortune comes with responsibility. Among the promised commitments of the Philippines is to ensure the granting of sufficient privilege, legal capacity, and juridical personality to the Loss and Damage Fund Board. This is clearly embodied in our host country agreement,” Dela Rosa said during Tuesday’s plenary session, August 13, 2024. “It is a big role and a heavy responsibility to be the host country in terms of climate change resilience efforts. Granted this responsibility poses a challenge, but it is also an excellent opportunity to show that we Filipinos never back down on any challenge,” he added. The Fund Board is mandated to assist developing countries that are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change in responding to economic and non-economic loss and damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change, including extreme weather events and slow onset events.
