Expand MTRCB powers: Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. cosponsors Senate Bill No. 2805 or an Act Strengthening and Expanding the Mandate, Capabilities and Organizational Structure of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), Amending for the Purpose Presidential Decree No. 1986 during plenary session Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Revilla said the entertainment industry has evolved with the advent of technology. A lot has changed and the form of art has also changed, according to Revilla. As such, he said the mandate of MTRCB must also be expanded to include online streaming platforms. “The purpose of this proposal is not to take away the arts. What we want is the fair application of the law in any form of art. After all, there should not be any distinction between the avenues where art is exhibited in the application of laws. Whatever the platform, regulation should apply equally,” Revilla explained. He said art in all its glory, should always bend in accordance with set rules and guidelines so as not to offend, and tarnish the reputation and image. “We create art not only to entertain, because that also includes our obligation to be a partner of the state in maintaining and further enriching the rich culture and unique Filipino customs,” Revilla stressed. The senator requested that he be made coauthor of the measure. (Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau)
