Extending validity of firearm licenses: Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri co-sponsors Senate Bill No. 2895 which seeks to amend Republic Act No. 10591 otherwise known as the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Zubiri said the proposed measure seeks to extend the validity of firearm licenses from two years to every five or 10 years to encourage higher registration and renewal rates and to reduce the number of unlicensed firearms in the country. He said the bill also aims to extend the firearms amnesty from six months to three years, to give owners more time to renew their firearms registration without getting penalized with delinquency fees. “These loosened restrictions are not to give gun owners a free pass to buy and carry as many firearms as they want. What we are doing, in fact, is finding ways to make it easier for gun owners to get their registrations and licenses in order,” Zubiri explained. Ultimately, he said, the Senate is pushing for the amendments to help better account all firearms in the country. (Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau). |
