Protect malls from wifi hackers: Sen. Raffy Tulfo urges the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to protect the people from free wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) internet hackers in public places such as shopping malls, restaurants, among others. During Wednesday’s hearing, January 15, 2025, of the Committee on Public Services, Tulfo said he has been receiving complaints from the public regarding several hacking incidents after connecting to a free Wi-Fi internet in a shopping center. “In today’s hearing, we will discuss certain issues emanating from complaint and concern we received from the public,” Tulfo said. “What is the status of free public Wi-Fi, how secure it is, why hacking is happening and what the government is doing to protect the public? Is there no protection for the public from hackers of free Wi-Fi in malls?” he asked. Tulfo, who presided over the committee hearing, discussed various bills such as the Public Telecommunications Policy Act of the Philippines, Roll-Over Internet Data Act, and Better Internet Act, among others.
