The CHR Charter: Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III highlights the importance of defining the powers and functions of the Commission on Human Rights to fulfill its mandates more effectively. Presiding over Thursday’s hearing, January 16, 2025, of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights, Pimentel discussed various proposed measures such as Senate Bill Nos. 2440, 2487, and 2582 otherwise known as the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Charter. “The committee will discuss the CHR mandates, powers and functions to fulfill its constitutional mandate more effectively. The proposed charter for the CHR is indeed a significant step toward protection of human rights in the Philippines,” Pimentel said. The bill seeks to strengthen the CHR by providing an effective and expanded structural, operational, and functional independence. The committee also discussed SBN 2873 or the Anti-Ticket Scalping Act and SBN 2791 or the Digital Nomads Visa Act. (Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau) |
