Senate adjourns session: Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero officially adjourned the session of the Senate on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, after passing key measures and approving the ratification of several bicameral conference committee reports aimed at economic growth and development. Lawmakers are expected to resume duties on June 2, 2025 after the election period. Approved on final reading was Senate Bill No. 2699, otherwise known as the Konektadong Pinoy Act, which aims to expand internet access and facilitate the development of a robust information and communications infrastructure. The Senate also approved several measures on second reading, including Senate Bill No. 890, otherwise known as Rightsizing the National Government Act of 2022, which seeks to improve the delivery of public service; Senate Bill No. 2982, also known as Fiscal Autonomy Act of the Judicial Branch of the Government, which aims to define the scope and extent of the act; House Bill No. 9904, otherwise known as the Charter of the City of Bacoor, Cavite Act, which seeks to merge several barangays in Bacoor, and Senate Bill No. 2975, also known as the Revised Animal Welfare Act, which seeks to strengthen animal welfare standards. The Senate also approved the ratification of the New Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Capital Markets Efficiency Promotion Ace and the revised charter of the Don Honorio Ventura State University in Pampanga.
