Biggest POGO provider: Sen. Risa Hontiveros, during Tuesday’s hearing of the Justice and Human Rights Subcommittee on her privilege speech urging the Department of Foreign Affairs to cancel Alice Guo’s passport, March 18, 2025, bares that Chinese national who is applying Filipino citizenship Li Duan Wang is an incorporator of the biggest Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) service provider. Hontiveros said Mr. Li is an incorporator of New Oriental Club 88 Corporation, considered as the biggest POGO service provider that was closed down in 2019. Li’s naturalization as a Filipino citizen is now awaiting President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s signature after Congress had approved his Filipino citizenship despite opposition from Hontiveros. In her opening statement, Hontiveros said New Oriental Club 88 Corporation amended its articles of incorporation in 2020 to be able to operate as a “Special Class of BPO” that will serve as a service provider for offshore online gaming. “This company of Li Duan Wang is still operational as of last year, we saw earlier that he is one of the incorporators, and just in August 2024, their Articles of Incorporation were amended again to extend their corporate term and existence," Hontiveros said in Filipino. “We find it offensive that Li Duan Wang concealed all those from Congress,” she added. The Senate approved in January this year House Bill No. 8839 granting Philippine citizenship to Li. The subcommittee continued its probe to exactly find out from the DFA and the Bureau of Immigration how Guo and other POGO actors were able to leave the country and who helped them leave.(Public Relations and Information Bureau)
