Outright dismissal of impeachment complaint unconstitutional: Senator-Judge Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III expresses his objection to the motion made by Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa to dismiss the impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte Tuesday, June 10, 2025. “The motion actually is unconstitutional because according to Article XI, Section 3, Paragraph 6 of the 1987 Constitution, the Senate has the sole power to try and decide all cases of impeachment. If the Senate would outright dismiss the impeachment complaint without trying to hear all the facts then there is no other body that they can turn to. A motion that cuts short the entire process is unconstitutional,” Pimentel explained. He also pointed out that the Constitution mandates the Senate to convene and try impeachment cases once a complaint is filed by at least one-third of the members of the House of Representatives.
