Impeachment Court votes to return complaint to HoR: The Senate sitting as an impeachment court with Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero as the presiding officer, moves to return the seven Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte. In a motion filed by Senator-judge Alan Peter Cayetano Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the court, with 18 senators in favor and five against, decided to return the complaints without terminating them. Cayetano’s motion amended the earlier motion of Senator-judge Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa calling for the outright dismissal of the case for possible violation of the one-year ban ban on impeachment complaints against an impeachable officer. Cayetano's amendment reads as follows: “That the articles of impeachment be returned to the House of Representatives without dismissing or terminating the case until such time that: (1) The House of Representatives certify to the non violation of Article XI, Section 3, paragraph 5 of the Constitution, which provides that ‘No impeachment proceedings shall be initiated against the same official more than once within a period of one year; include the circumstances on the filing of the first three impeachment complaints; and (2) The House of Representatives of the 20th Congress communicates to the Senate that it is willing and ready to pursue the impeachment complaint against the Vice President.
