Senate ratifies Enhanced Fiscal Regime for Large-Scale Metallic Mining Act: Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito thanked colleagues for the ratification of the bicameral conference committee report on the disagreeing provisions of Senate Bill No. 2826 and House Bill No. 8937 or the Enhanced Fiscal Regime for Large-Scale Metallic Mining Act. In his speech delivered on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Ejercito said reforms in the large-scale mining would contribute an additional P6 billion worth of revenues for the government. Under the reconciled version, the conferees agreed to a five percent royalty based on gross output on mines operating within mineral reservation and a 5-tier royalty rates ranging from one percent to five percent based on margin from metallic mining operations for those outside mineral reservations, the senator said. The reconciled bill also strengthened the mechanism for transparency and accountability in the extractive industry, he said. Also included is a provision for the immediate release of share of excise tax, royalties and other taxes and fees to the local government units. (Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau) |
