KIKO ON THE SC'S MOVE TO COMMISSION
SPECIAL TRIBUNALS ON EXTRA-JUDICIAL KILLINGS

"We laud the move of the Supreme Court to squarely face the unabated killings that appear to be the handiwork of certain elements within the military establishment. This should encourage witnesses and the families of victims to come out and testify."

"We call on the Integrated Bar of the Philippines to create a task force of volunteer lawyers through is Legal Aid offices who will serve as private prosecutors for these cases. The entire legal profession must throw its support behind the SC move to get to the bottom of the killings. The very essence of our being a civilized nation rests on respect or the rule of law. Without the rule of law, we usher in the law of the jungle and we become no different from savages."

"The SC's move should send a signal as well to perpetrators and would-be perpetrators that the State has a keen interest in the immediate resolution of these cases. Only when we start punishing the guilty in unprecedented numbers will we see a genuine respect for the rule of law and he restoration of our people's faith in our justice system."
