JAMBY CALLS ON SENATE LEADERSHIPS MOVE
AS U.N. TAKES ACTION ON ANTI TERROR LAW

This is a victory for the Filipinos in the struggle for human rights that the United Nations through the Special Rapporteur on Protection of Human Rights while countering terrorism has acted favorably on my complaint on the counter terrorism bill recently signed into law by GMA. This law which is a license to kill, to open bank accounts and to detain people indefinitely is the single most dangerous piece of legislation enacted by Congress in all its history. Let us all urge the leadership of the Senate to act on the call of the United Nations to amend or repeal this draconian law.

The UN has vindicated our struggle. This is a slap on the face for both Justice Secretary Raul Gonzales and National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales, the dynamic duo of human rights violations in the country. Should the government fail to act on this matter raised by the UN, I shall not hesitate to ask that sanctions be imposed on the Philippines. This is a matter of life and liberty, nothing less.
