INTERNATIONAL TRIBUNAL FINDS GMA ADMINISTRATION
GUILTY OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS
JAMBY LAUDS PPT VERDICT, PUSHES FOR REMOVAL
OF THE PHILIPPINES FROM HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL

The verdict of the Permanent Peoples Tribunal on Mrs. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is a victory for every Filipino.

As a Senator and advocate of human rights, it is my responsibility to bring to the attention of the members of the international community the true situation in the Philippines and seek justice wherever it may be. Contrary to the statements made by Representative Prospero Nograles, this is not black propaganda on the part of the opposition. The members of the Permanent Peoples Tribunal are all independent minded and respectable individuals. Congressman Nograles should not belittle the jurors of the PPT or give me too much credit.

Mrs. Arroyo and her cohorts were properly notified of the proceedings, but they chose not to participate. She slept on her rights.

After the PPT verdict, I shall now be proceeding to Geneva and submit before the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights copies of the PPT verdict. I shall also ask that the Philippines be removed from the Human Rights Council. It has no business being there when it cannot even protect the rights of its citizens, but instead violate it with impunity. The people of the Philippines are not only hungry, they are also being killed.

In Geneva , I shall also be meeting the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to formalize my complaint on the human rights violations committed against Ka Satur Ocampo.
