MALACAÑANG URGED TO WITHDRAW
ITS SUSPENSION ORDER AGAINST MAYOR BINAY

Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Q. Pimentel, Jr. (PDP-Laban) today urged Malacañang to drop its abominable and illegal order to suspend Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay to prevent the breakdown of law and order.

Pimentel said the 60-day preventive suspension order against Binay is absolutely illegal and the mayor acted correctly by refusing to accept and abide by the order.

He said the law is very clear that no local government official should be suspended on account of an administrative case during the election campaign. He also assailed the use by the administration of excessive force in serving the suspension order.

?Armed men should not take over the Makati City Hall without any legal reasons. This is an attempt to control Makati by sheer force. It?s a prescription for chaos and disorder,? the minority leader said.

Pimentel said Malacañang has no other agenda behind this desperate act except to advance its partisan political interest in view of Binay?s inevitable landslide victory in the Makati mayoralty race.
