Villar files resolution honoring 10 outstanding teachers

Senate President Manny Villar filed Senate Resolution 104 which honors the outstanding teachers in the country who belong to this year's Metrobank Foundation's honor roll.

The Metrobank Foundation's outstanding teachers who were recognized by the Senate consist of four elementary teachers, four secondary and two higher education teachers.

They are: Fredo Laureles of the Ateneo de Manila Grade School in Quezon City, Jeneluj Cunanan of the Lanao Central Elementary School in Kidapawan City, Madeline Rivera of the San Pablo Central School in San Pablo City, Leticia Palle of the Malaybalay City Central School in Malaybalay City, Glendale Lamiseria of the Dulag National High School in Leyte, Ruben Abucayon of the Alegria National High School in Surigao del Norte, Norma Pacaigue in Novaliches High School in Quezon City, Cynthia Bangero of the Barotac Viejo National High School in Iloilo, Benilda Santos of the Ateneo de Manila University Loyola Schools in Quezon City, and Caesar Saloma of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

The Senate "Resolution commending the 2007 Outstanding Teachers of the Metrobank Foundation" said, "We should recognize the essential role of teachers in educational advancement, their important contributions in the development of humanity and modern society, and their rights as members of a highly regarded profession."

"Despite the difficult task of molding the youth, the teachers are given meager salaries and benefits which barely support themselves and their families while being overworked. Moreover, the equipment and facilities they need in order for them to teach properly and more effectively are inadequate."

"Notwithstanding the constraints, the teachers should be honored, considering their honesty, dedication and for being in the noblest profession," the resolution said.

It further stressed that "the teachers are the beacons of unstinting dedication and commitment."

Villar, president of the Nacionalista Party, filed SR 104 on Aug. 29 in pursuit of his five-point legislative agenda which prioritizes education.
