KIKO: "LP MUST DO IT ALONE IN 2010 IF ALIGNING WITH OTHER FORCES WOULD MEAN POLITICS AS USUAL"

Senate Majority Leader and former Liberal Party (LP) Chair Kiko Pangilinan today reiterated his party's stakein the coming 2010 elections saying, "The LP is in a position to present a genuine alterbative to trapo polictis. The party must do away with old, tired methods that have proved inutile in providing effective leadership for the nation. It cannot be "politics as usual" and the LP must take on the challenge of breaking out from the outmoded and obsolete political paradigms.

"The LP should consider going it alone as an option if aligning with with other groups or parties only serves to perpetuate the bankrupt and hopelessly inutile 'politics as usual.'It is this kind of mindless, self serving personality oriented politics that has brought our nation to the brink. We must seek new and fresh approaches to political leadership for our nation. Now is the time for bold and decisive leadership. We must be daring enough, courageous enough to chart a new course for our nation. The LP must seize the opportunity to position itself as a genuine alternative that focuses on solutions and results so as to give hope and inspiration to our people, "Kiko added.

"The people are sick and tired of trapo and self serving and unprincipled politics whose only results after a generation of democracy have been to make the politicians and a few others extremely wealthy while keeping the rest of the nation impoverished, backward and powerless," Kiko said.

"It must be noted that the LP, while electing Roxas as party president, has yet to officially designate its candidate for president in a separate process to be undertaken at the proper time. Wala pang official candidate ang LP, while Senator Roxas may at this point have the best chances of bagging the party nomination, his nomination must go through a process as is the case in any democratic institution. Like any other party official Sen. Roxas must go through our party processes and in such a process other LP officials should be allowed to aspire for the nomination as well. The Liberal Party adheres to liberal democracy. We elect our party's official candidate for president, we don't crown him or her," Kiko ended
