ROXAS: NO FRILLS, COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENT TO MARK LP ANNIVERSARY IN BARANGAY COMMONWEALTH, QUEZON CITY

Senator Mar Roxas, president of the Liberal Party (LP), today said the anniversary celebration of the party will take place on January 30 in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City in a no frills, modest, meaningful and people-serving event.

"The people will join us in a palengke dialogue, a town hall meeting, a medical outreach mission and livelihood seminars; we will talk about prices, the RVAT on oil, cheap medicines and income tax breaks for minimum wage workers," he said.

Roxas welcomed the civic-minded partnership with the Quezon City government in organizing the January 30 community service program.

Speaking on behalf of the LP, he said the party is privileged to be working with Quezon City Mayor Feliciano "Sonny" Belmonte following the city's inclusion in the list of Asia's top 10 Cities of the Future in a recent survey commissioned by The Financial Times. The city was listed together with Hong Kong and Singapore.

"Quezon City continues to shine despite recent downgrades by foreign institutions that call for better governance at the national level," Roxas said.

Roxas noted that Quezon City was assessed No. 5 in the category, "Best Economic Potential." It was third best in Asia in terms of "Cost Effectiveness," sixth best in terms of "Best Human Resources," and tenth best in terms of "Quality of Life."

"We are in search of constructive partnerships with our country's leading LGUs to advance our mission to put people first by serving the community," he added.

The senator said LP officials and members will join him in giving community service to residents of Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City on January 30.
