ANGARA HAILS JDV'S TERM, OPTIMISTIC ABOUT NOGRALES

Senator Edgardo J. Angara today said that former House Speaker Jose de Venecia's leadership was one of unprecedented reforms, and expressed optimism that newly-elected Speaker Prospero Nograles, Jr. will continue to push for a strong legislative reform agenda.

"Speaker Jose de Venecia's leadership has brought forth unprecedented reforms. Under him, urgent measures were passed. People would miss that dynamism in pushing for legislative action," he said.

"The rise of new Speaker Prospero Nograles of Davao brings fresh hope that the reform agenda will continue," Angara added.

"Speaker Nograles has been a progressive and pragmatic leader. He, too, can get things done, a trait which the public miss among politicians. As the first Speaker coming from Mindanao, he is a worthy son of a prosperous but neglected region," said Angara.

De Venecia's record 5-term as Speaker of the House came to an end after the House early today voted unanimously to elect Nograles as the new Speaker, minutes after a motion to declare the position of Speaker vacant was approved by a vote of 174-35 with 16 abstentions.
