GSIS reaching out to its pensioners

Senator Edgardo J. Angara on Thursday inaugurated the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Satellite Office in Baler, Aurora. "This is the 16th branch of GSIS in the country and is very special because it is the 1st satellite office to be established in a very short period of time."

The GSIS satellite office will introduce the GSIS Wireless Automated Application Service (GWAPS), the first unique transaction system used by the office. It was established to ease transactions such as processing of loans and claims, processing and receiving queries, E-card applications and other benefits through the use of eCard Plus.

GSIS President and General Manager Winston Garcia attended the event and said that the satellite office will bring much convenience to Aurora.

According to Angara, pensioners from Baler have to travel for 3 hours to reach GSIS-Cabanatuan, the nearest GSIS branch. While those in the northern parts of Aurora travel 7 hours, some of them have to sleep at the terminal.

As a gesture of gratitude, Angara pledged to host the next national conference of GSIS in Aurora. He also presented a copy of his book Baler to Garcia, the first public officer of the republic to get a copy of the book.

Garcia said he traveled to Aurora by plane and was amazed when he saw the forests all covered by trees. He urged the people to protect these riches, one of Aurora's "national treasures."
