COMMUNITY CHEST TO HOLD ORATORICAL TILT WITH PIMENTEL AS GUEST SPEAKER

The Community Chest Foundation, Inc. (CCFI) will hold its 5th Oratorical Contest for College Students on Friday (Feb. 29) with Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Q. Pimentel, Jr. as guest of honor and speaker.

Pimentel, in his speech, is expected to exhort the youth to get themselves more actively involved in the efforts to search for truth behind the controversies hounding the national leadership and to pursue much-needed political and social reforms.

The oratorical tilt, which has for its theme "A Message to Our Leaders," will be held at 8 a.m. at the meeting room 6 of the Philippine International Convention Center.

Pablo Ronquillo, CCFI president, said the oratorical contest aims to encourage the youth to express their ideas in cleaning up the country's electoral process and strengthening the democratic system in the light of lessons learned from last year's fraud-tainted senatorial elections.

"Oratorical contests are part of the activities to make the youth more aware of the issues affecting their welfare and to enhance their role drawing the country's development roadmap," said Ronquillo, also chairperson of the 5th Oratorical Contest Committee.

Meanwhile, the CCFI will hold its 58th annual membership meeting on March 14 at its headquarters on 815 Remedios St., Malate, Manila to elect a new Board of Trustees.

The present CCFI Board of Trustees is composed of Justice Rizalina Bonifacio-Vera, chairperson; Pablo Ronquillo, president; Orlando Pena, first vice president; Rosario Villar, second vice president; Pismu Dialan, third vice president; Nellie Mercado, treasurer; Ma. Corazon Camallo, assistant treasurer; Cindy Dollente, corporate secretary; and Bob Mirani, chairman emeritus.

The other members of the CCFI board are Francis Ablan, Rose Mars Alcruz, Florinda Jose, Angelita Manalili, Cesar Ochoa, Lourdes Pimentel and Aleli Villena-Sevilla.
