KIKO: NEW UP CHARTER AIMS TO BENEFIT OUR FUTURE
ISKOLAR NG BAYAN

Another step and the University of the Philippines (UP) will have a new charter crafted to meet the challenges of the changing times.

Senate Majority Leader and Independent senator Kiko Pangilinan, principal author of the measure and sponsor... painstakingly marshaled the measure defended it in the 12, 13th and 14th congress, has formally submitted the bicameral conference report on the UP Charter Act of 2008. "We appreciate that members of both houses of congress have seen the wisdom and benefit of amending UP's century-old charter. This piece of landmark legislation addresses the need for us to upgrade the quality of education here I our country, particularly UP," said Kiko, who was once the student regent and student council chairman. The new UP Charter, among others, strengthens the university's fiscal autonomy which will address the issues of better compensation for professors, tax exemptions and improve facilities.

"The new Charter will ultimately redound to the benefit of the students. These students, in turn, will be the future ISKOLARS NG BAYAN." Kiko said.
