ROXAS URGES DFA TO ENSURE JUSTICE FOR PINAY KILLED IN JAPAN

Senator Mar Roxas urged the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to help the family of Crisanta Mahusay Lopez secure justice after the 33-year-old Filipina worker and her son were killed by husband Masayoshi Nagano last March 17.

"I ask the DFA to ensure that Crisanta's killer is prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and that that her family receives all the benefits they are entitled to," Roxas said.

The senator noted that Lopez was a big help to her family when she was still alive and her violent death shocked the family.

"Based on news reports, her husband has admitted his guilt and confessed that he killed his family due to financial pressures. I do hope this confession will result in justice for Crisanta and her son," Roxas added.

The remains of Crisanta and son Naomasa will be flown from Tokyo to Manila on Sunday, after which they will be taken to the bereaved family in Roxas City .

Roxas expressed sadness that the young mother and her son were killed in such a violent manner. "It's a sad reminder on how working and living overseas does not always guarantee a better life," he said.

Records show that Crisanta had gone to Japan in 1995 as an entertainer, and she became a housewife in 2005 after marrying Nagano .

Nagano had reportedly been troubled by outstanding debts and his job as a bus driver, prior to the killings. On March 20, three days after, he surrendered to police and fully admitted his crime. Crisanta was found with cuts on her head by a blade, while her son appeared to have been strangled.
