Gordon Commends PASG and SBMA for P4.62 Billion Shabu seizure But urges tighter watch over ports and sea routes to prevent drug smuggling

In a privilege speech, Senator Richard Gordon called for the tighter watch over all Philippine ports as well as sea routes which have long been known as drug smuggling routes.

This after authorities of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group reported the seizure of a total of 770 kilos of Shabu with an estimated street value of P4.62 Billion.

"The seizure of this massive amount of illegal drugs at SBMA should deter other would be smugglers from using our ports and sea routes to ply their evil trade." said Gordon.

Gordon called for increased funding for the police and coast guard to enable them to acquire more sea vessels and equipment which they could use to apprehend or deter drug smugglers.

"We must do all we can protect our children from the menace of illegal drugs. We also call out to leaders in communities all across our country and teachers in our public schools to re-double our efforts to teach them to say no to drugs," said Gordon.

In his privilege speech, Gordon credited the SBMA Task Force Bukas Kotse for being instrumental to foiling the attempt to smuggle shabu through Subic. Members of the Task Force alerted the Port Sentinel at the SRF gate and the Presidential Anti Smuggling Group to the suspicious unloading of cargo from vessel F/B Shun Fa Shing to an Outlander van. The cargo was seized and was later found to contain 90 kilos of high grade shabu with an estimated street value of P500 Million pesos. In subsequent operations by SBMA officials and the PASG, another 20 kilos of shabu was found inside two boxes floating in the SRF area and 660 kilos of shabu was found inside a van parked outside a warehouse owned by Hualong International.
