Senate leads relief efforts in Iloilo

The Senate turns over and distributes today boxes of donations and relief goods it gathered for the victims of typhoon Frank in severely hit Iloilo.

Lead by the Office of Senate President Manny Villar and Senate officers, the relief operations are a follow up of Villar's personal efforts which began last Sunday when distribution of relief goods were made.

Relief given today to victims consisted of canned goods, biscuits, noodles, coffee, milk, utensils, clothes, blankets, and other necessities. The Senate President gave one year of his salary for the relief efforts, aside from many other forms of assistance.

"This is a time to act and help save the lives of our kasimanwas. Let us lose no time in aiding our people who have lost their homes, livelihood, and loved ones in the calamity," Villar stressed.

"We call on our people to contribute their share in alleviating the plight of the typhoon victims at this time of national trial," he added.

Relief goods will be distributed to the municipalities severely affected by typhoon Frank with the help of Cabatuan Mayor Ramon Yee and Mina Mayor Rey Grabato.

Iloilo has been placed under a state of calamity in the wake of the devastation brought by the typhoon.

The Senate shall conduct follow-up relief operations in Iloilo after gathering more donations and relief goods through the Senate-initiated "Tulong Kapwa."
