SENATOR MAR ROXAS' STATEMENT ON THE ONGOING PEACE PROCESS IN MINDANAO

"I have never made a stand on the basis of ethnic or religious views, but only on the basis of the common welfare. And there is no point in trying to refute the malicious loose talk about my motivations or ambitions.

"What I care about is sustainable peace in a united Philippines. We cannot have peace under a partitioned republic. We cannot have peace without transparent consultation with our people.

"Name-calling and questioning motives are for those who cannot refute my arguments. I understand why they are upset. Had this Memorandum of Agreement between the GRP and MILF pushed through, they would have carved a state within our country and obtained control over a huge part of our natural resources. Where would be the people in all this?"
