Senate cites Kilyawan Boys Choir

Senate President Manny Villar handed a copy of a resolution adopted by the Senate commending the Kilyawan Boys Choir for winning in the 5th World Choir Games in Graz, Austria recently.

Villar, Nacionalista Party president, said, "The success of the Kilyawan Boys Choir in the 5th World Choir Games highlights the excellent and unique talent, artistry and faith of our young Filipinos."

The Kilyawan Boys Choir sang at the opening of the Senate session today.

It was Villar who earlier filed Senate Resolution 524 "commending the Kilyawan Boys Choir for showing the world that the Filipino talent is world-class in winning the 5th World Choir Games in Graz, Austria."

The choir won a gold medal in the pop a cappella category and two silver medals in the mixed boys choir and music of the religious categories during the international event which started on July 9 and ended on July 19.

It derived its name from the songbird Kilyawan, which means golden oriole. It traces its roots from the school-based Claret Boys Choir formed in August 1994 by Mark Anthony Carpio, choirmaster of the Philippine Madrigal Singers, together with Hazel Parchaso-Copiaco, music teacher of Claret School of Quezon City, Robert dela Cruz, Fernando Lopez Jr., and Jeffrey Copiaco.
